Important information for Term 2

A huge thank you to all parents for your support of our new gathering time roster that started today. The children moved around with ease. We love having our parents helping in the mornings and more importantly your children love having you with them. For those of you who come in with younger brothers/sisters in tow please be assured that you and your little one are more than welcome. We would rather have you here supporting your Pre-Primary child than not coming in at all.

Below is the weekly roster for you. We would love for parents to stay and help their child on their Writing Journal day. If another day would suit you better please come and see us.
Each child is rostered at two stations each day except on their Writing Journal day. On that day they may choose any station once their writing is finished. You may give your child as much help as they need with their writing apart from writing it for them. Please have your child show the teacher their writing once it is finished.

Wks 2+3:  An interest (talk about an interest of yours, what is it, why do you like it etc)
Wks 4+5:  A favourite game (one you play on your own or with the family – board game/card game/sport)
Wks 6+7:  My family culture (where is your family from, do they speak any other languages at home, is there something that your family does that makes it different to other families eg: birthday traditions etc)
Wks 8+9:  Your Grandparents (who are they, where do they live, your experiences with your grandparents etc)

Term 2 News Focus
Our class is currently focusing on developing language skills through Event Based News. This means talking about an experience or an event. News telling is an important step for children, moving them from conversations to formal literate language.
Event based news involves students talking about an event they have experienced. This re-introduces them to narrative components such as When? Who? What? Where?
And introduces new concepts such as:  -Why? -Additional information -Feelings?  -Thoughts?

Parents, please provide support at home by giving your child opportunities to practice and prepare at home before sharing their news. It is important to go through what your child will be telling for news the day before they are required to tell news.

Thank you for you support
Kristie Leahy and Alison Martin

Year 5+6 Camp Fun Run
The Year 5+6 camp fun run will be held this Wednesday at 1.30pm. Our Pre-Primaries will run one lap and then sit on the hill to watch the others and cheer them on. The Year 5+6's would be very grateful if the Pre-Primary families would make a donation toward the fun run as they won't be collecting from sponsors.

Literacy
This term in literacy we will be learning all about onset and rime. The "onset" is the initial phonological unit of any word (e.g. c in cat) and the term "rime" refers to the string of letters that follow, usually a vowel and final consonants (e.g. at in cat).
Each week we will learn new 'rime' families. This week we will look at the 'an', 'at' and 'ap' families as in 'c-an', 'm-at' and 't-ap'.

Number
We will be looking at the all important 'teen' numbers this term. We will focus on what each number looks like as a numeral, word, tally, in a ten frame, as pictures and where it sits on a number line (what number comes before and after it).

Remember to keep looking at our PPL blog for important updates on what is happening in PPL!!

Thanks
Kristie and Alison
